
A community art show scheduled to open for the public on Marine Heritage Day, Saturday August 23rd 2025. Selected artists can show and sell their works at the Walker House Museum !
Artist submissions are Open April 16th – July 15th. To submit an artwork for consideration please download and read the artist submission guidelines and prepare the necessary materials.
Show Run Dates: August 23rd – October 22nd
Theme Focus: The theme will highlight how local artists draw inspiration from Lake Huron’s deep-rooted history and its ever-changing nature. It will explore both the historical influence of the lake on local culture and how contemporary artists interpret and express their connection to the water today.
Key Focus Areas:
- Historical Influence
Artists will reflect on how the lake shaped the town’s development, culture, and heritage. This could include themes such as:- Past community traditions tied to the lake
- Industry (e.g., fishing, boat-building)
- Personal Inspiration
Artworks inspired by the lake’s landscape, the tranquility of the shoreline, the movement of water, and the region’s wildlife. These pieces will express how local artists draw creative inspiration from the lake’s beauty. - Environmental Reflection
This theme will explore the relationship between the lake and contemporary issues such as:- The effects of climate change, Artists will present how these elements influence their creative perspective on the water.
- Sustainability and conservation.
Incorporating Written Works: In addition to visual art, the event will include:
- Artist Testimonials: Personal reflections from artists on how Lake Huron influences their work.
- Stories & Poems: Written works that explore the connection between the lake’s history and the artists’ creative journeys, or how their art engages directly with the environment around them.
